Position Overview

Ultimate Staffing is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their client's team in California. The successful candidate will be involved in a range of engineering tasks, from design to implementation, with a focus on thermal battery systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own subsystem design by leading the architecture, analysis, detailed design, and testing of structural, thermal, and fluid components within thermal batteries.
  • Perform rigorous analysis through calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and trade studies to guide design decisions.
  • Drive validation and reliability by leading prototyping, testing, and root cause analysis to ensure robust, reliable hardware.
  • Pursue cost-down initiatives by identifying and implementing design and manufacturing approaches that reduce cost without sacrificing performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define system requirements, lead design reviews, and integrate feedback across teams.
  • Establish best practices by developing and maintaining CAD standards, documentation, and engineering infrastructure.
  • Mentor and lead junior engineers, serving as a technical lead.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Senior Engineer: 6+ years relevant industry experience (Bachelor's) OR 4+ years (Master's) OR PhD.
  • Staff Engineer: 10+ years relevant industry experience (Bachelor's) OR 8+ years (Master's) OR PhD with 4+ years.
  • Examples of relevant industry experience include power generation, aerospace, propulsion, or other industrial hardware products.
  • Proven track record of taking complex mechanical systems from concept to deployed hardware.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks or similar), PDM systems, and creating detailed drawings (GD&T, ASME Y14.5).
  • Deep experience with machined components for low- to mid-volume production; additional experience with sheet metal, castings, or composites is a plus.
  • Proficiency in structural and/or thermal analysis (FEA and hand calculations).
  • Familiarity with systems analysis and risk management tools such as FMEA.
  • Experience developing engineering processes, standards, and best practices.

Required Work Hours

Monday through Friday, during first shift hours.

Benefits

The role offers competitive compensation, with a salary range between $120,000 and $190,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
